What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state between awake and asleep, a state of consciousness called trance. We are often in a trance state in our daily lives- being fully immersed in a book or movie, exercising when outside distractions are gone, known as the flow state, or when one is driving and finding themselves at their destination, not recalling the last few blocks of the journey. Think of it as highly focused attention where outside thoughts melt away.
In hypnosis, activating the trance state opens the unconscious mind, often called “the other 90% of the mind”. It is where our emotions, memories, imagination, and creativity live. It drives our habits and behavior. Involuntary body functions like breathing, circulation, and digestion are stored here. And after learning how, we no longer think about walking or driving. It’s held in our unconscious. Our unconscious solely works to help us not only survive but thrive.
In hypnosis, we access this powerful part of the brain. Here, we can transform harmful memories that can be a driving force in our daily living, often unbeknownst to ourselves. It clears the energy of trauma and anxiety, rids us of harmful habits and actions, and replaces them with new life-affirming ones. It is a rebooting, a rewiring of our minds, where we can make positive changes in how we experience our lives.
What hypnosis isn’t is a state of losing control. Nothing can be done in hypnosis without the consent or agreement of the subject. A hypnotist cannot make someone do something if something does not ring true for them. It is not a Las Vegas show where people humiliate themselves or when Dracula says, “You are now in my power.” These are fun fiction but not fact.
Hypnotherapy is done in a series of sessions, often between 4-8, depending on the person, their issue, and when the shift occurs. In our sessions, I will teach you self-hypnosis to deepen the experience supporting you in creating new habits and ways of living.
